Is It Actually ”Sleep Dentistry”?
Being a dentist as long as I have, I know that most of my patients are less than thrilled to be at the dentist’s office. It can be stressful, uncomfortable and downright nerve-wracking. We do everything we can to “de-stress” our clients but for some people, maybe you, no amount of beautiful views, pain relief or caring staff is going to make a trip to the dentist tolerable.
Just because you have a hard time with dentists, I promise I won’t take it personally. That’s why I offer concious sedation dentistry, sometimes called sleep dentistry, to my patients. You shouldn’t have to choose between good oral health and an anxious dental visit. Sedation dentistry gives you another, much more pleasant option.
Many people assume that they will be unconscious is sleep dentistry, but that is not true. There are varying levels of sedation based on the procedure and the needs of the patient, but dentists actually refer to it as “conscious sedation dentistry” because you will be able to know what is happening and respond to directions from me. However, it is important to understand that you will need assistance getting home and will probably be a bit out of it for a while after your procedure. We will give you full instructions prior to your appointment.
If you’ve been embarrassed in the past by your “scaredy cat” ways when you are visiting the dentist, don’t worry – I’ve probably seen a lot worse and you have nothing to be embarrassed about by asking for sedation. Call and discuss your particular situation with me or my staff and I am sure we can accommodate you and make you very comfortable.
